Default web browser unavailable on bare metal install

I have got a fresh install of Clear Linux (version 29610) and have installed it with Gnome on my XPS. Though Firefox comes installed out of the box, it doesn’t set it as the default web browser, and I can’t choose a default web browser in the Gnome “Default Applications” list. The drop down is just greyed out and unclickable.

Is there something fundamental about how Clear Linux works that I just don’t understand yet that would explain this behavior?

No, it is probably an integration issue and worth a bug report on github, if it’s not already filed.
