Is it supposed to be possible to boot the live image on a system with NVidia graphics?

I have a Core i7-12700F with a GeForce GTX 960 graphics card. When I try to boot the live image from a USB flash drive, the first part of the boot process where devices are detected etc. goes very fast, then there’s a wait of about 30 seconds before systemd starts, then I see systemd going very, very slowly loading different modules. I’ve waited as long as 15 minutes and it still hasn’t completed loading the system! I’ve seen lots of complaints about poor support for NVidia hardware, but nothing explicitly stating that it wasn’t supported at all, just mostly complaints about not supporting the official drivers. Is my card not supported by the open-source drivers included with the live image?

(I’m assuming it’s a GPU-related problem because the live image loads perfectly, from the same USB device, on a laptop with Intel graphics.)
