I currently am using a newly purchased book, Statistics, Data Mining & Machine Learning in Astronomy (Princeton U. Press, 2020), as a doorstop for want of AstroPy. This got me to thinking about the issue of what might provide guidance to CL staff for bundling decisions. I suggest all the NumFocus-sponsored projects and their dependencies should be installed. NumFocus sponsorship is an indicator of high value to the calculation community.
Julia is among the NumFocus sponsees. I understand CL has difficulty with Julia, but it works well from a source install.
