Gnome has something strange in 43160

Hello

I found that Gnome has something strange after updating a one PC to 43160.

Example,
-font on terminal
-icon on dock (scale is not unified. Probably, 100% scale of icon without expansion)

It happens between 42140 and 43160 as screenshot shows.

As quick fix, enable custom font in preferences.

Yeah, 43150 is where it starts, i.e. with GNOME 48. The terminal font issue is very irritating indeed, though I am guessing they will fix it pretty soon.

Otherwise, any of you running a monitor through a Thunderbolt 5/4 hub or dock? I have been having issues with that setup for a while now.(See also this.)

Gnome updates often give us a lot of headache. I can reproduce the problem, and setting custom font in preferences (for the Unnamed Profile in my case) does resolve it. I don’t currently have an idea how to fix it unfortunately.

Thank you everyone for your attention.

I noticed curret Gnome version on Clear Linux is still 47. I was not sure that it is caused either by new Gnome specification or something wrong.

Modification of Terminal preference is certain option at this moment.

By the way, Gnome 48 brings various new features including font replacement. I wish they won’t bring new troubles.

Sure enough, the new fonts do seem to be causing the issue. I downloaded the new Adwaita fonts and installed them, and my terminal is now looking correctly spaced.

If you want to try for yourself, you can grab the Adwaita fonts file, unzip, open each one in the Fonts application and install from there.

I’ve asked @btwarden to add the fonts package, and you can track its progress at Add Adwaita fonts for Gnome 48 support · Issue #3299 · clearlinux/distribution.
