Include Nvidia Open Source Kernel Module in Clear Linux

Nvidia started to publish open source drivers in 2022, making a full transition to open source in July of 2024. Today, they only recommend open source drivers for any card Turing and newer, and no longer recommend the proprietary drivers.

After a course search, it seems like people still have a lot of trouble using these drivers on Clear Linux.

Would it be possible to just build and include these kernel modules into the Clear Linux kernel instead of Nouveau? There’s still features missing, especially for newer cards, from Nouveau, and there can be a significant performance delta. It seems easier to just use the Nvidia driver and let them handle the optimization of the driver itself rather than Nouveau.

Hi @mavickt

I do agree with you that include the nvidia drivers as a bundle would be nice.

I just want to add a link to a fruitful discussion about nvidia drivers in CL.
