GDM don't start

I’m not sure why but today, the system started bringing up the command prompt login screen after booting.
Tried to get GDM up manually with:
sudo gdm
and
startx
Both command failed.
Tried to upgrade the system and followed the “Fix a broken installation” guide, but nothing changes.

First check if X is not already running.

startx -- :1

Maybe the GDM process was already running and blocking DISPLAY :0

If that doesn’t work, try removing these 2 files and try again :

 /home/username/.XAuthority*

 /opt/.X0-lock

Sometimes these files are in a different location, to find the exact one, type :

 updatedb

 locate *part of filename*

This filesearch uses mlocate, which is in the findutils bundle

 sudo swupd bundle-add findutils

If startx – :1 doesn’t work, try startx – :7

Sometimes X won’t start because of a lack of free space on your disk.

 df -Th

Also try

 sudo systemctl status lightdm

 sudo systemctl service lightdm start

Tried
“startx – :1” up to “startx – :8” don’t worked.

Don’t had either these files.

Just result in a black screen with “_” blinking in the top left of the display.

The system have about 60 Gigs free space remaining.

At the end of the warning, when I enter 'startx" I notice this recommendation: “Please also check the log file at “/var/log/Xorg.0.log” for additional information.”

Removed the Nvidia proprietary driver and the GDM worked again in the next boot.

How did you remove the nvidia proprietary drivers?

See the documentation here: https://docs.01.org/clearlinux/latest/tutorials/nvidia.html#uninstallation
If you used the scripts @doct0rHu created to install, he also has an uninstall script.

Before you do that though, you might want to see if this workaround fixes whatever problem you’re having: GNOME fails to start after installing NVIDIA proprietary driver · Issue #1274 · clearlinux/distribution · GitHub
