Desktop install from 35000 shows no media available

I’m attempting to install to virtualbox from clear-35000-live-desktop.iso.
The installer seems unable to find media to install from.
Is this normal?

Have you created a virtual hard disk in the VirtualBox “Create Virtual Machine” assistant ?

yes, right off the bat. After trying multiple time, I destroyed the VM and then used the most generic setings I could think of. They the installation media was found. Most weird
