Am I stupid? - I have many problems but I keep coming back

I know “Clear Linux is for developers” and all that, but I don’t understand why I, as a rookie Linux user, keep returning to Clear? I know Debian is just better for general desktop shenanigans and stability, but this operating system just pulls me in for some reason. It’s not stable at all (I had to install the lts kernel because discord kept causing kernel panics through around 4 versions.) and I quite literally have a USB stick right next to me that has Mint and Debian. But why don’t I use mint or Debian? Does clear Linux have a certain special sauce that makes me like it more than Debian? Is Clear Linux actually better for me and I’m just gaslighting myself? Am I stupid?

Well, I kinda do the same. I love Clear Linux, but the reality is that the team is not big enough to cover all the problems it has, and the desktop experience is not very good since they stopped supporting it. We don’t even have Secure Boot after 6 years of users asking for it. If you look at the most recent benchmarks, CachyOS has performance that is on par/slighty better than Clear Linux while being far more stable, and it runs on a known platform (Arch).

I’m trying to do the migration into CachyOS, not sure if my old hardware will support it, but we will see. Intel is not doing very well financially right now, so it makes sense that Clear Linux is not a priority right now, perhaps it will improve in the future though!

It’s a passion project for many of us

Well, until now, this is the only linux distribution, which can switch off and reboot Intel Compute Stick properly, that’s why I try to apply…

Hi everyone,

I believe the kernel panic might be caused by using Ventoy to boot the USB stick. I initially encountered the same issue, but once I discovered an alternative method, I never had any installation problems—even on multiple machines (I currently have it installed on three systems).

Additionally, another mistake I made was not running the processor compatibility test.
As a result, I ended up trying to run the distribution on unsupported hardware.

Finally, on GitHub, the development team is very active. Within just a few days or a week, I’ve always been able to find a solution for what I needed.

A special thanks to @pixelgeek @btwarden @arjan who made all of this possible.

Yes, if using Ventoy, just boot via GRUB2, and Bob’s your uncle. Credit goes to @MarcusEngine.

Me too! So, I came to a compromise. I have Clear Linux on one nvme and Cachy OS on another. Depending on the mood, I boot into either. I rarely boot into Windows 11 to play an odd game.

Funnily enough, CachyOS is not really working on my old netbook, just gives me a black screen for some reason, but Clear Linux works very well (except hardware acceleration on Bay-Trail, but I know that iGPU is a pain to support). Anyway, the only thing I would need in the future is Secure Boot, here I am crossing my fingers for when that day comes. (Oh, and just to help a bit the devs, I have telemetry ON in my system, I encourage everyone that wants to help development a bit to turn it ON!)
