Hey all,
I wanted to ask if it’s possible to make a translation because so far there are just three available languages. I think others would appreciate and help with translation.

Any help is welcome.
@biapalmeiro maybe direct these requests to a git project they can contribute to?
Absolutely!
Can you help me with that?
Let me know what the requirements are, and I’m in…
@biapalmeiro Yeah, of course! Basically need just your approvement and we can get into it
Would be really cool if we could integrate a tool such as transifex or similar instead so we can make it easier for the translators to submit changes, rather than performing all git-fu and all that other stuff (e.g: just submit strings and make the tool create all other meta-work for translations to get into the software).
Specialized tools are always better.
Some contenders :
POEditor works too, but you have to actually create a new locale and commit it
Guys, these all are awesome!!! Give me some time to organize our efforts. Thank you so much. Super excited!!!
Maybe we can start with clr-installer https://github.com/clearlinux/clr-installer/tree/master/locale
Of course…
And after that, start a poll with all good open source translation services.
Already started with that, nearly 80% done.
@biapalmeiro Hey, any progress?
Sorry the delay guys. Just mentioned you here. I’ll follow up on this later this week.
@Shigatora how are you doing that so far? POEditor? GitHub?
Sorry for the delay. POEditor so far.
Can you share that with us? So, the team can start taking a look. It can help us to build up the process around it. Thanks
Folks, let me explain what we’re doing and what you can do in the meantime:
First, for projects that are already using gettext
and are part of Clear Linux* Project · GitHub, You already can submit github pull requests with .po
file updates. poedit
and many other tools can be used to translate the pot
file to your own language. Feel free to use the program you like.
In this category are:
If you have the skills, we welcome contributions for projects like the installer to internationalize software and regenerate potfiles
. Again, patches welcome. However, after checking out potential candidates, I see very little projects we currently have that really would benefit from this, aside swupd-client
and telemetrics-client
perhaps.
We’re looking into making our own translation hub or using a service like weblate to allow users to use a simple, federated, webinterface to translate our software. This isn’t entirely trivial because we’d like to offer something really easy to use - for instance, we think it should be able to use either github or this website’s login. We’re exploring ideas and hopefully we can come up with a solution.
