Connecting an eGPU

I have a Lenovo P72 (sweet machine!) and a NVIDIA eGPU.

The eGPU is connected via a Thunderbolt 3 cable.

Using eGPU switcher with POP!_OS (or other Ubuntu variants) works fine.

I am looking to switch to Clear Linux, but I really need the eGPU to work.

I see Clear using X11 (Good!) since Wayland has issues.

On launch of Clear Linux, even tho the eGPU is authorized, nothing appears on the display.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Long story short is to give up…

Nah. If I wanted to give up, I would use Wind0ws.

Also, I have learned a lot about X11 and Wayland and drivers along the way.

considering this comment and my issue here. I will switch distro lol.

What’s known so far is:

  • You have to disable integrated GPU to use NVIDIA proprietary driver, either disable it in BIOS, or only connect displays to NVIDIA cards.
  • Officially it’s possible to passthrough the graphical computation workload from a iGPU to a NVIDIA GPU. But I’m not aware of any successful attempt on CL.
